I have been to a number of eastern European countries and in every one have totally enjoyed my stay - loved the people, the cities and the fun. Especially in Moscow.

Russia is a huge country, from tall and blond people in the north-west, solid and fierce in the south, to elegant and cultured in the east. As befits such a huge melting pot of DNA there are some striking beauties to behold - who we've seen dominating the tennis courts as well as the catwalks.

BUT! Too many photographers, and I guess many of them are Russian and/or eastern European, are HOPELESS. Picture 1 (right).

This photoshoot has a horrid selection of poses, which even the thumbnails reveal. The girl may or may not be named Gaby in real life but she should sue the photographer. Or at least get any money back she may have "invested" in the photoshoot.

The poses are just awful. It doesn't matter if Gaby was new to the industry or if she failed to understand. The photographer should NEVER have allowed some of these photos out of his camera (or computer or dark-room).

Let's now look at picture 2 (below left). This is a crop of number 10 from the thumbnails.

Gaby is gorgeous, with a perfectly symentrical face, bright eyes and an elegant mouth. Her breasts are small-ish and perfect, with wonderful nipples and areolae.

If Gaby was being photographed by MET-ART or Hegre then maybe we would have seen a photoset with every shot a celebration of this striking girl.

Those photographers encourage the models to pose in ways which accentuate their features, each shot crafted to show strength, innocence, attitude, athleticism, allure or plain sexiness.

Long legs, pert bum, big breasts or radiant face, the established erotic-art photographers know how to get the best from a shoot.

But now we have some truly shocking examples, which picture 3 helps explain. This is picture 4 from the set.

First, the pose is awkward for the model to hold. Her body is tense. Her face is tense. It is unkind in the way it accentuates almost a grimace of pain. Look at the cheeks.

The left arm is flopping, doing nothing - unless it's helping Gaby to balance in the awkward pose.

But the worst aspect is how the pose pushes Gaby's stomach out. I've seldom seen such an unflattering shot get published and wonder why.

Pictures 9, 15 and 16 are also atrocious, so bad I can't repost them or describe any detail.

But please, someone, track down this photographer and offer a few lessons. And Gaby, please find someone with a lot more skill for your next photoshoot (and hoping this one doesn't put you off totally).

Source: http://www.pretty4ever.com/Astrogirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06037680649086287956noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3256963416390685136.post-21419397087995092872009-11-07T03:13:00.000-08:002009-11-07T03:36:06.725-08:00Brittany Flick - musician, model, merchandiser, MySpace maestroThe web is still going through enormous change but 5-minute-fame has been one massive effect of Web 2.0 and the various social media sites.

Although reality tv started a lot of the throw-them-into-the-spotlight-and-see-what-happens nonsense, modern web technologies have allowed the very obsessed to continue the exposure/drama/fandom to almost unlimited degrees.

Whether ardent fans pushing their obsessions or ardent wannabes pushing themselves, the opportunities are almost endless: website, blog, FaceBook, MySpace, YouTube and Twitter can all be used, alone or in any combination.

Brittany Flickinger (photo) has used a number of methods to keep her hopes and potential-career in the spotlight. Nothing wrong with that as she has a multi-million dollar business to run. So although Britt is not in that league yet, she is a very good example of a modern Web 2.0 user in the better senses of the term.Astrogirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06037680649086287956noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3256963416390685136.post-18799650460471948432009-03-21T07:50:00.000-07:002009-03-21T07:56:36.681-07:00America the clear winner in Paris Hilton's British Best FriendThere were two bits of bad news in the final of Paris Hilton's reality TV series British Best Friend. Samuel and Kat. Samuel the cheat and Kat the nasty. There were also two bits of good news. That Emma was in the final and that super-fake Carrie was eliminated from the trip to LA.

Unfortunately, Paris (or the producers) had made the wrong choices with Samuel and Kat. Both had been exposed as nasty schemers behind people's back.

Reports that the reality TV series descended into chaos during a fight between Emma and Kat is easy to believe. Whether the two were screaming at each other until 4.30am and "foaming at the mouth" is true or exaggeration, that bosses had to call a psychiatrist to calm them is a great story.

A spokesperson for the show is reported as saying: "We have a psychiatrist on hand at all times.” With the nasty characters like Kat on display as examples of modern Britian, Los Angeles and Las Vegas seem 'normal' in comparison to such antics.

The remaining impression of the show was the poise and intelligence of Paris Hilton. She frequently looks stunning, equally happy beside the pool or on the main stage at a high-profile awards event. With the spotlight on the differences between USA people and UK people, the clear winner was America.Astrogirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06037680649086287956noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3256963416390685136.post-9441220875070813092009-02-24T02:15:00.000-08:002009-02-24T02:30:12.610-08:00The decline of Microsoft continues - Netbooks and Appple the new winnersThe numbers are remarkable given the previous growth of Microsoft - and its former stranglehold on the computer market. Users are no longer forced to buy the over-priced Microsoft Office. They can run the free Open Office instead. So for 2008 the figures are:

Microsoft Office sales down 23%

Windows OS sales down 8%

Which is all good news for consumers, but bad news for the millionaire employees of Microsoft.Astrogirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06037680649086287956noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3256963416390685136.post-12961898029449947012009-02-20T10:49:00.001-08:002009-02-20T11:08:47.156-08:00Trainee BBF Pets at the Farm -As we know, Paris Hilton loves animals, especially little ones. And she is a very accomplished horse rider. As a test for the British townies she sent them to a farm. Turned out to be a bit of a horror story. Most trainee British Best Friends are so precious they can't cope being around ordinary animals - like horses, sheep and pigs. The prize was a spa treat for the ones who could cope.

Meanwhile, Paris had been receiving a fantastic therapeutic massage, which turned out to be a treat for us - even just viewing.

Next came a bit of work with Olivia to examine the BBFs real thoughts - some good old-fashioned psycho-social confrontations forced a few people out of cover. The results were very revealing, plotting the BBFs on a scale from most real to most fake:

Real <--------------------------------------------------> Fake

Samuel -- Flic -- Emma -- Ola -- Chrissie -- Meddy -- Laura -- Layla -- Carrie

We totally agree with the results at the fake end, because Carrie has annoyed us from the start. She never stops thinking about herself, never stops complaining, never stops being totally self-obsessed. Never-ending bleating is fake, and Carrie can't understand how fake that is.

Samuel received an evening treat at a sushi restaurant with Paris, one-on-one, and once again Paris looked gorgeous and is so open and outgoing.

Was intriguing to hear Paris's view on the sex tape scandal, how someone she really trusted would go behind her back and sell something so private, especially when everything occured when she was 17 and still rather naive.

If you think Paris looks great on a catwalk, in boots and leather at a firing range, with a shotgun in hand, she looks awesome. One of the strong impressions from the whole series is how intelligent and perceptive Paris is, in contrast to most of the shallow BBFs.

Photo shows Paris with sister Nicky - the British hopefuls are way off the quality needed to live alongside the stylish sisters

To add a bit more pressure on the BBFs, Paris announced that the finalists will join her in Los Angeles.

When asked why she should stay, all Carrie really said was "I want this" and this proves again she is the least worthy. We think the wrong choice was made to eliminate Layla, although Paris explained that Layla had got lost in the background and so people were not trusting her.

The biggest surprise was when Kat arrived back in the competition - the faces of the other contestants fell about a mile. But worse is that all your demographic profiles are defunct - extinct - a dead parrot.

Generation X is approximately those born between 1965 and 1979, who grew up with MTV in their teenage years and are now a key economic slice of 30-year-olds through 44-year-olds.

Their statistical significance is now suspect. Demographic profiling can cope with acceptable variations of a few percent. Now 25 years old and over the blip of the past few years, Dokic is back as a contender, working her way up the rankings.

That journey is, however, perhaps harden than 10 years ago. The teenagers in the rankings from 10 to 50 are full of talent and confidence, attacking the top players and building great reputations. When Jelena Dokic, ranked 187, met Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, the No. 11 seed, the sets showed the importance of the mental game today.

Wozniacki, with so much talent and court skill, won the first set despite some close games and break point opportunities for Dokic. The second set showed the power and baseline dominance of Dokic, and quite a few wobbles in the Wozniacki game. That left the scores at 6-3, 1-6.

Mid-way through the third set, Dokic was tested and responded with mental strength and hitting power. With some excellent position play and even aces, Dokic sped to lead by 4 games to 2.

With a marvelous display in the 7th game, Dokic took her lead to 5-2, and that left her serving for the match. She controlled everything - her nerves, the ball, the player on the other side of the net. "Guts in life and on the court," is how one reporter described Dokic. The final score (6-3, 1-6, 2-6) was both unexpected and very welcome, even if we feel some sympathy for Wozniacki.

A standing ovation for Dokic was deserved, whether you are Australian or not. Former Australian No. 1 Alicia Molik, now a commentator, gave Dokic a hug at the end, as they were so both emotional. Jelena said she took on a point-by-point strategy after losing the first set. Asked about the past few years, Dokic said maybe she got on the tour too early, but has matured and feels helped by the crowd always, and the whole Australian nation: "I have so many feelings and emotions going on right now, so not sure how to say." Idol is the number one tv show in the States, on the No. 1 tv network, and achieves an average of 30 million viewers per episode.

Even better figures help the final, which has 55 million viewers, as the results of the 97 million votes are revealed. Don't forget, these are just the USA figures and millions more watch the show worldwide. That power means only exceptional talent - and almost always a fantastic voice - will make a significant impact Stateside. For the UK there has been a severe lack of music power.

Leona Lewis is the most successful British artist to cross the Atlantic for years. Having conquered Top 10 album charts around the world, her album Spirit hit No. 1 status in the States too. With the single Bleeding Love also topping the Billboard Hot 100, Leona has proven her extraordinary talent in the most competitive market in the world.

Just for the record, Spirit achieved No. 1 all major markets: UK, USA, Canada, Australia, China, Germany, etc.

Robbie Williams arrived in America along with massive hype with The Ego Has Landed. The best the album could achieve was No. 63 on the U.S. pop charts. Follow-up Sing When You’re Winning only reached No. 110 on the U.S. charts. Escapology didn't reach Top-40, while Rudebox did not even get in the shops - it was only released digitally in America.

After winning the Mercury Prize in 2002 Ms. Dynamite was tipped as the British rapper who would win over America. The critics fell over themselves with praise for A Little Deeper but the American public was not fooled - it only reached No. 179 in the States and follow-up Judgement Day didn’t receive full release in the U.S. Ms. Dynamite is just one of many hyped UK rappers who failed to resonate, including Dizzee Rascal and Lady Sovereign.

Although the Sugababes are one of the most successful pop groups in Britain, they have very little presence in the U.S. Only Hole in the Head charted low on Billboard’s Hot 100 and Americans can only buy Sugababes on import.

Even MySpace-hyped Lily Allen could do no better than No. 49 on Billboard’s Hot 100 with Smile.

All of which shows that only real musical talent and dedication will achieve success in America. Britain's music press and gutter tv pundits need to get their heads out of lurid, non-music hype and self-promotion. Only then will they see any real British music talent.Astrogirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06037680649086287956noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3256963416390685136.post-86457264168907087822009-01-12T05:12:00.000-08:002009-01-17T02:22:02.923-08:00Top Pop Artists 2008 - Girls Steal the ShowGirls stole the show for the Top Pop Artists of 2008 by taking 4 of the top 5 slots.

1. Rihanna - solo and collaborations
2. Chris Brown - especially with Jordin Sparks
3. Leona Lewis - the most beautiful voice
4. Katy Perry - sassy, sexy, classy talent
5. Jordin Sparks - heartfelf and smooth diva

Some may argue that Brown is only there because of his duet with Jordin, and that is probably correct. The fee is not the only income, however, and the $15m for Edwin A. Salt will be boosted by healthy shares of profits. But also don't forget that Angelina (and Brad) give millions to charity, and huge amounts of time to humanitarian activities.

At No 2, Julia Roberts has returned and hit the jackpot with Duplicity, earning $15 million-plus for the thriller directed by Tony Gilroy. Roberts is also a strong supporter of charities.

Moving from rather cute child actress and coed, Reese Witherspoon has accomplished a surprising variety of roles. Her salary for Four Christmases was around $14m and total earnings put Witherspoon at No 3 for the year.

Cameron Diaz is still a high earner, with around $10m for the comedy What Happens in Vegas, and that helped toward total earnings of around $50m for the year.

Another former child and TV star is No 5, Katherine Heigl, who is leaping up the earnings list. They were old concepts and have been totally overtaken by REAL context kings:

YouTube
easily find videos that work (rather than false or broken links in Google or Yahoo)

MySpace
easily stay in touch with friends and common interests (in contrast to clumsy and boring email software)

Facebook
easily find friends and share common interests (in contrast to clumsy and boring special interest groups)

Firefox
providing a browser with tools that work

So ignore the nay-saying of the big boys and go with what works for users. Every computer manufacturer (except Apple) and every hosting software (except Joomla) can be shown to have very fundamental usability failures.

Learn from history!

The Egyptians were smart enough to know that context was king, and used a version of XML-like descriptions for their scrolls to help describe the content. (Yes, the Roman Christians decided to destroy all that and set us back a few thousand years.)

Astrogirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06037680649086287956noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3256963416390685136.post-39325188710559095202008-07-03T14:56:00.000-07:002009-01-11T15:27:22.391-08:00Not the BBC News - Unhealthy dumbing downAs each year passes, the BBC News has become less relevant and more immature. Half of some recent news programmes have been full of poorly-disguised advertising for other BBC programmes.

So-called celebrity interviews are nothing more than teasers for BBC programmes.

Even the death of a 16-year-old boy was constantly referenced to a BBC soap.

Regional news slots are used to promote other radio or tv slots.

Where is there any real news coverage on the BBC? Why is our enforced licence fee money used for low-interest programmes? In fact, the BBC News is lucky to get 8% of the population watching. So how can an enforced levy on 100% of households be justified?

Perhaps the most damaging problems of the BBC are the lack of balance in their news items. For example, the attack on Kinsella is paraded as an example of Britain in trouble. Yet we have a 16-year-old out at 2am in a dangerous part of London, at or near a pub, and in a fight.

There are other questions a responsible news programme should be asking. For example: Why was he there? Who was looking after him? How did he get involved in a fight?

Instead, the BBC are more interested in adding a child abuse storyline to Eastenders, which has constantly portrayed a menu of fights, arguments, murder, incest and violence. And all that before the 9pm watershed.

There is no balance left at the BBC. No family values. No positive role models. No questioning or challenging.

And, finally, there is no real analysis in BBC news reports. No historical perspective. No statistical comparisons. Instead, there is a mish-mash of soundbites and soft opinion, knee-jerk bias and overall tone of fiddling while Rome burns.Astrogirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06037680649086287956noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3256963416390685136.post-68996125308883054882008-05-27T02:44:00.000-07:002009-01-11T15:20:00.522-08:00Eurovision sulk - why Britain keeps losingThe current British tantrum over the Eurovision results is rather pathetic. In summary, the position seems to be: “If we can’t win then the whole thing is unfair.” The UK came bottom of the 25 countries competing.

Reality check 1: Britain is not in the Euro 2008 football finals because they were not good enough to qualify. The UK did not get into the top 16 countries in Europe!

Reality check 2: Britain would be in position 28 in the medal table for the 2004 Olympics if we take population into account. Even if we go on total medals, Russia, Germany, France and Italy did better. With Ukraine, Netherlands, Romania, Spain, Hungary and Greece chasing hard. The UK is under-performing.
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 87px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEntEO_MuDOEJ-tdnAFEbDAUMsaSNad2C53sivqu9fPEvKA0MFxDpH0kOCU_58_i6EkYpB31VllBvBMoA8tMZpEE9B19VQHPDo2Ddj927U0QrYBmP-axW8oeSeidwlTr-ENdQGGn_eN6g/s400/eurovision_2009_200px.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5290179823219200050" />
Reality check 3: give some weighting to Euro 2008, Eurovision and Olympic results and Britain would fall in about position 20. With Greece, Sweden, Romania, Croatia, Russia and the Ukraine comfortably ahead. The UK is under-achieving.

Why? The answer is simple. In many minds, the empire still rules. No, not the George Lucas one. Unfortunately, England and/or British teams are continually beaten in all sorts of sports by much smaller nations, often former colonies of the British Empire.

The pundits and media in the UK, however, continually laud mediocrity and avoid the hard truth. When a UK team loses in an international match, they are ‘unlucky’ or ‘a bit tired’ or some other excuse.

The truth is, the UK teams and/or talent contestants are not good enough. If they were coming third or fifth or ninth, then we might believe some of the excuses. But 25th or 17th or 20th is not even close.

So to the current moaning, stop complaining and start performing.Astrogirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06037680649086287956noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3256963416390685136.post-68124610374038084602007-12-15T13:46:00.000-08:002008-08-23T06:26:30.667-07:00X-Factor cabaret final a shipwreckThe 2007 X-Factor final was a shambles. It was a seaside town variety show. Same Difference, with their thin voices and attractive smiles, waft through another set of pretty and sweet and unchallenging songs. Leon sings the same old croon, one key, one note, one song that appears no different to another. Rhydian tries to put a manly front on a cultured and precious and closeted voice.

ITV realised the trouble they had, probably along with Simon Cowell, and so they ramped up the cabaret elements to the hilt. Duets with the finalists from Jason Donovan, Kylie Minogue and Katherine Jenkins were astonishing, but more from the gulf that was revealed.

This is probably the worst final in X-Factor history. Look, all the finalists come across as great people and very determined to succeed. But Leon is a one song pony. If you want smooth hotel bar music, he's the man. But no eXtra factor. Same Difference were overshadowed by Jason, who is no powerhouse. But his one voice has 5 times the power and tone of the two put together.

And the whole series was blown into the distance the minute Katherine Jenkins sang just one note. There is the power. There is the talent. There is X factor to the XXXXX degree. Poor Rhydian could not stay in the same song, let alone be on the same stage. He has a good voice, probably the best in this series in terms of consistency. But Katherine was awesome, spine-tingling, and made up for the many low spots in this series.

It was so bad, they couldn't even find a bunch of highlights. Instead they went for the most serious problem of the show. We cringe and we switch off as they parade out some of the worst moments from the auditions. This is not funny, or uplifting. It is sad and mean.

The money must be really hurting ITV by now. To have to pay for Jason and Kylie and Katherine to try to boost audience figures must have really stung. And I hope so. They have consistently refused to tell the truth about the voting, and my guess is that would reveal how poor this series has been received.

So, a mediocre series became a shipwreck after the best talent was pushed off by the judges and the secret voting shambles.Astrogirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06037680649086287956noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3256963416390685136.post-90667104787961447832007-12-09T05:10:00.000-08:002009-01-11T15:29:24.868-08:00Digital Music Sales Milestones1m _ July 2004
10m _ April 2005
50m _ May 2006
100m _ March 2007
150m _ November 2007Astrogirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06037680649086287956noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3256963416390685136.post-22038094481795002332007-12-09T03:58:00.000-08:002008-08-23T06:24:49.616-07:00Leona Lewis smashes sales recordsNot only is Leona Lewis number one in the charts, she is also outselling other acts by up to 10 to 1 in all ways!

For example, in First Week sales of Albums:
375,872 _ Leona Lewis - Spirit
227,922 _ Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare
151,000 _ Kaiser Chiefs - Yours Truly Angry Mob
135,685 _ Foo Fighters - Echoes Silence Patience & Grace
132,315 _ West Life - Back Home
117,966 _ James Blunt - All The Lost Souls
94,501 _ Linkin Park - Minutes To Midnight
73,517 _ Maroon 5 - It Won't Be Soon Before Long
70,500 _ Kings of Leon - Because Of The Times
66,000 _ White Stripes - Icky Thump
60,500 _ Avril Lavigne - The Best Damn Thing
58,756 _ Kate Nash - Made of Bricks
53,540 _ Sugababes - Change
49,012 _ Stereophonics - Pull The Pin
39,191 _ Enemy - We'll Live And Die In These Towns
too low _ Amy Winehouse - Back to Black
too low _ Mika - Life In Cartoon Motion

The situation is the same in First Week sales of Singles:
218,805 _ Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love
55,144 _ Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls
51,500 _ Sugababes vs Girls Aloud - Walk This Way
37,500 _ Beyonce & Shakira - Beautiful Liar
36,804 _ Kanye West - Stronger
34,164 _ Rihanna featuring Jay-Z - Umbrella
34,068 _ Sugababes - About You Now
33,578 _ Timbaland - The Way I Are
30,693 _ McFly - Baby's Coming Back / Transylvania
30,500 _ Mika - Grace Kelly
too low _ Robyn - With Every Heartbeat

The music press and radio and tv all fall into the same trap. They give acres of space to Mika and Winehouse, pretending they understand style and interest, when all they pick up on is shouting and self-promotion.

Fortunately, the people who spend their own money make the most sense, choosing talent and skill and technique. The presenters spend other people's money and get it wrong. Just look at the annual roundups that will be appearing this month and you will see so-called celebrities and other drunks or stoners being lauded as 'the best'. Bookie favourite Rhydian Roberts is reported as saying the acts were not given enough time to practice their songs because of the extra non-music focus of the lame spin-off show, the Xtra Factor.

Again, music is forced into the back seat while ITV tries to prop up its ailing digital channels. As the singer explains, "It doesn't seem to matter that we are all here because we are passionate about music. All they want is footage and drama to fill their show. This show is not all it's cracked up to be."

Astrogirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06037680649086287956noreply@blogger.com0
